Since 1968, the Olympic Games have had a mascot. This year, London has choosen Wenlock and Manderville, mascots for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The first one was named after  the village of Much Wenlock in Shropshire. This town is known for Wenlock Olympian Games set up by Dr William Penny Brookes. The latter, Mandeville, is named after Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire, where the first Paralympic Games were held in 1948.
