We started this second term with the visit of the amazing theatre company "Interacting". They represented three plays very funny and we enjoyed a lot with them. 5th and 6th graders, watched the play titled: "Myths and legends go wrong". In it, appeared characters and gods from Greece.

Charles Dickens

Hi guys,

Today we celebrate the 200 anniversary of Charles Dickens birth. As you well know, Charles Dickens was a English writer, author of many important books as you can see in the image.

Charles John Huffan Dickens was born on the 7th of February 1812 in Landport (England).

Dickens attended private school for a time, after the family recolocated to London.

Later, Charles started working at Warren's Blacking Warehouse. He earned six shillings a week and worked 10 hours day. Some have wondered if some books like 'Oliver Twist' or ' Christmas carol' were inspired by the time he spent there.

Then, Dickens entered a career in law, working as a clerk and in 1834, he would start writing political journalism, using the pen-name 'Boz'.

In 1836 he got married and he travelled to America and Canada with his wife after spending time en New York. He died in 1870.

Some of most important books he wrote are:

• Oliver Twist.
• Christmas carol.
• David Copperfield.
• Hard times.
• Little Dorrit.
• Great Expectations.
• A tale of two cities.

Bonfire Night

Hi guys,
I know that you are studying English very hard but... only a few minutes to read something about Bonfire Night.

It's celebrated in all Britain the 5th of November.

'In November 1605, the infamous Gunpowder plot took place in which some Catholics plotted to blow up the English parliament and king James I, on the day set for the king to open parliament.The men were angry because the king had treated them badly and they didn't like it.

The story is remembered each 5th November when 'Guys' are burned in a celebration known as 'Bonfire Night'.

• The Guy is made of old clothes stuffed with paper or straw. It's a reminder of 'Guy Fawkes'.
• The fireworks are the reminder of the gunpowder.
• The bonfires are used to cook potatoes wrapped in oil.
• The days before Bonfire Night, children used to take their home-made guys out on the street and ask for 'a penny for the guy' for fireworks.
• The most famous rhyme for this celebrations is:

'Remember,remember the fifth of November

Gunpowder, treason and plot.
